Aubrey on heroic day in Cowboys OT win over Giants: 'I've got a job to do'

FRISCO, Texas 鈥 I can't believe it's not butter, but that's probably because, all things considered, it actually is Butter. Lovingly earning that nickname from All-Pro quarterback Dak Prescott during his first season with the 抖阴视频, Brandon Aubrey has only proven that moniker to be just as accurate as the right foot attached to his body.

Simply put, Aubrey is a machine, and while there's no proof he's AI or a metalloid T-1000 sent from the future to hunt down John Connor, there's nothing that says he isn't.

So when he walked onto the field in Week 2 to strike not one, but two, separate walkoff field goals, one being a 64-yarder to force overtime that might've been good from 70 yards away, there was a reason no one was concerned.

He is really like that.

"Just talking to myself and going through my breathing exercises, and just reminding myself that I'm made for this moment, and that I believe I'm the best kicker in the league," said the First-team All-Pro kicker. "There's no better spot to be. It's an opportunity, so go have fun.

"鈥 I think that's the first walk-off field goal I've had, and I did it twice today, which was pretty cool as time expired. Pretty cool moment."

Cool? More accurately, it was glacier-cold.

Aubrey was perfect on the day, making all four of his field goals and all four of his point after attempts, accounting for 16 points 鈥 40 percent of the Cowboys' total scoring output on the day.

"We all have a job to do, and going into that last kick, there were like 30 seconds left, and they scored the touchdown, just praying for an opportunity," Aubrey said. "Once we got in range, I was just walking through my normal process, which is just focusing on the details that it takes to kick a ball. I'm not really worried about what the situation is.

"You've got a job to put the ball through the upright, so I just tried to do that."

And did.

It led to the fans in the stands and in the tunnel exiting the field all chanting Aubrey's name, something he's never experienced before, even in his days as a professional soccer player.

"The crowd really brings me alive," he said, genuinely pleased but still without a smile, hinting at the T-1000 allegation above. "So, it's great to hear that."

For his part, Prescott helped Aubrey will the Cowboys to the harrowing 40-37 victory in their home opener at AT&T Stadium on Sunday, also avoiding the dreaded 0-2 start to the season that would've included losses to two NFC East rivals, meaning the losses would've mathematically weighed more going forward.

A slow and messy start for the offense (and defense as well) gave way to Prescott coming alive in the second half, and particularly in the fourth quarter and overtime, with the help of CeeDee Lamb, Jake Ferguson and George Pickens in the aerial attack and running back Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, and even Prescott himself, in the rushing offense.

So when Prescott escaped pressure up the middle on 2nd-and-9 for a 14-yard gain with a little more than 30 seconds remaining in overtime to give Aubrey a chance at kicking a 48-yard hero ball, he wasn't concerned in the least about the outcome of the game at that point.

"I know where Brandon started at this thing, and the work that he's put into the journey, being a professional in another sport, then picking up a football and trying to do this," said the three-time Pro Bowl quarterback. "Having a little bit of insight on his journey, the work that the guy puts in, the confidence that he has in himself, he's a super, super special player. He's a huge part of this offense.鈥

"鈥 When you have a guy like that, he gives you faith that I'veI just got to get this to the Star, and he can put it through. He was a big part of us having confidence and belief that we'd win this game, no matter what happened. And he delivered, and was the reason we did."

At this point, given just how valuable Aubrey has proven to be overall, and especially in the clutch, it's almost like the Cowboys have an ace MLB closer coming out of the bullpen whenever he jogs onto the field with the weight of the world on his shoulders.

And all while looking as calm and unbothered as a man walking to the fridge for a beer.

"He is a closer," said Prescott, grinning ear-to-ear." Hell, he might need some music 鈥 his own special music to play like a closer, and he deserves that. We're thankful for that guy."And, with his latest masterpiece, Butter inches ever closer to being the next Cowboys' superstar to get his bread.
