Updates: Cowboys once again have eyes on UFL

Don't miss any of the action with our daily updates: news, notes and more throughout the Cowboys' regular season. Presented by Blockchain.com

June 3

3:30 p.m. 鈥 If this were baseball, the Cowboys would be one of the best in the majors as it relates to their batting average when going after talent that hails from the UFL.

They have two grand slam hits with KaVontae Turpin and Brandon Aubrey, each having earned [First-Team] All-Pro honors and being viewed as the best returner and kicker in the game, respectively, and the Cowboys could look to try their hand again this summer with UFL talent because of those success stories in Dallas.

Speaking from the final practice of OTAs and ahead of mandatory minicamp, executive vice president and director of player personnel Stephen Jones made that much very clear.

"Obviously, we're paying attention because we've found a player or two through the UFL," Jones said. "So we're watching that, in terms of those guys are doing a good job over there to see if there's anybody that can help us over here. We'll keep our eyes on who's available."

June 3

12:00 p.m. -- The Cowboys begin mandatory minicamp on June 10, and one of the biggest questions looming over the three day period is whether or not All-Pro defensive end Micah Parsons would be in attendance. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer expects him to be.

"I would assume," Schottenheimer said when asked if Parsons would be in attendance. "Micah and I talked a couple of days ago. He's doing a little bit of traveling, but again, everything that he and I talked about, I expect that he will be here... Micah and I have had great communication, everything I've asked him to do and vice versa he's followed through on."

Parsons, who has been "in and out" of the building during voluntary OTAs per Schottenheimer, is in the midst of trying to negotiate his contract extension as he heads into the final year of his rookie contract.

5:04 p.m. 鈥 The prevailing word to begin the Brian Schottenheimer era in Dallas is "culture", and it's permeating everything the Cowboys are doing.

The first-time head coach has put into place a number of processes and competitive outlets for players, and expects veterans to buy in fully 鈥 including helping to acclimate rookies.

Tyler Smith, one of two resident leaders of an offensive now without a recently retired Zack Martin, spoke from OTAs about what culture means to him going forward.

"I think it's huge for the success of this football team," said the All-Pro. "Establishing the culture early and getting everybody onboard is ultimately our goal. Schotty talks about it every day, but we're gonna compete everyday. Sometimes he has to pull back on us [in practice] but I'd rather him pull back on us than us not go hard. 鈥 The ultimate goal is to win the Super Bowl."

May 27

5 p.m. -- Tyler Booker feels he's ready to make an impact for the 抖阴视频 from the moment he's unleashed as a rookie in the NFL this coming season.

There are many reasons the first-round pick believes this, and one of them is where he was groomed at a collegiate level: the University of Alabama.

Playing for the Crimson Tide pitted him, weekly, against some of the best talent in the country 鈥 NFL caliber, no less.

"It's definitely prepared me a lot 鈥 talent level and the way we do things in the SEC," said Booker in early May. "In the SEC, things are done to a higher standard. There's a lot more expected out of you than in other conferences, and that's proven on a week-by-week basis. You see how much success SEC players have in the NFL, so that's definitely prepared me for where I am today."

May 22

10:30 a.m. -- During his three seasons in Pittsburgh, wide receiver George Pickens wore the number 14, and in college at Georgia, he wore the number one. To start with the Cowboys, he'll sport 13, but it may not be the number he wears in Week 1.

"Nothing's really finalized right now, it's just a whole bunch of numbers," Pickens said. "My guy Traeshon [Holden], he's got number seven, and you know [Trevon Diggs] is going to be seven, so everybody's working now.

Both of Pickens' former number are currently taken by Markquese Bell in 14 and Jalen Tolbert in 1, and will likely continue to stay that way unless Pickens tries to negotiate a deal to take over one of their jerseys.

-------------

10:00 a.m. -- Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb dealt with a shoulder injury for most of the season in 2024, with the pain eventually getting so bad that he sat out the final two games of the regular season. Since then, it's been a long and grueling recovery process.

"I want to say a good five months of real recovery and rehab," Lamb said of his offseason rehab work. "I'm grateful to have two arms, I can tell you that."

Even while playing through what he called the worst pain he's felt in his career, Lamb still put up 1,194 receiving yards and 101 receptions in 2024, the fourth straight 1,000 yard receiving season of his career.

-------------

May 19

11:45 a.m. -- The Cowboys' newest wide receiver duo in CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens will take the field together for the first time in Tuesday's voluntary OTAs, but the two have already connected and don't view their pairing as a first/second option duo whatsoever.

"We both 1's," Lamb told reporters at Cardinals QB Kyler Murray's charity softball event over the weekend. "It ain't no A/B, none of that. You look over there, you see one, you look over here, you see another one. So do what you've got to do with that."

If the Cowboys can get WR1 production from both Lamb and Pickens in 2025, then their offense will get the boost that the front office was looking for when discussing who they wanted to line up on the opposite side of the field from Lamb.

May 15

12:30 p.m. -- As the Cowboys grow closer to the start of OTA's and team minicamp, Micah Parsons is still without a contract extension. Nothing has changed on that front, and while Cowboys COO/co-owner Stephen Jones didn't reveal how close if at all the two sides are on a deal, he echoed the same sentiment the Cowboys have been sticking to since the beginning.

"We want Micah here," Jones told reporters outside AT&T Stadium on Thursday. "He knows we want him here, I think ultimately we'll get something done."

Parsons said in April that it was important to him to have a deal done by the time the Cowboys head to Oxnard for training camp, which is now just a couple months away.

May 13

3:00 p.m. - Former Cowboys defensive back and unrestricted free agent Amani Oruwariye has reportedly agreed to terms on a deal with the Tennessee Titans for the 2025 season.

Oruwariye, who was drafted in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions, spent just the 2024 season in Dallas with the Cowboys and tallied 23 tackles in seven games.

It was a roller coaster of a year for Oruwariye, who had a game-clinching interception against the New York Giants in Week 4 but also had a costly muffed kickoff that ultimately led to Dallas losing their Week 14 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

In Tennessee, Oruwariye reunites with former Cowboys special teams coordinator John Fassel, who has taken over the same role for the Titans.

May 12

1:31 p.m. 鈥 The Cowboys are nearly done in signing their draft picks, after getting a contract finalized with fifth-round pick Jaydon Blue on Monday.

That leaves just second-round pick Donovan Ezeiruaku as the only remaining draft pick not to sign.

The Cowboys actually signed seven of nine draft picks during the rookie minicamp on May 2-3.

Blue, one of two running backs drafted by the Cowboys, reportedly signed a four-year deal worth $4.62 million.

May 7

11:45 am 鈥 After striking a deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers to acquire wideout George Pickens, the 抖阴视频 shaking up the entire NFL in the process, a corresponding roster move was required to free up a seat.

The decision was made to waive Seth Williams on Wednesday, to accommodate that need.

Williams joined the Cowboys as a member of the team's practice squad in October 2024. He was not elevated to the active gameday roster last season, but went on to sign a futures deal in January.

The former Broncos' sixth-round pick can now be claimed by any of the other 31 clubs.

May 6

1:00 p.m. -- In his 25 years of coaching experience in the NFL, it'd probably take more time to figure out who Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer hasn't crossed paths with at some point versus finding those who he has.

One of the many he has interacted with is former Houston Texans head coach and current Boston College head coach Bill O'Brien, who holds Schottenheimer in high regard.

"I have a lot of respect for Schotty," O'Brien said. "He was a good friend with [former NFL head coach and current Patriots OL coach] Doug Marrone, that's one of my best friends, that's how I met Schotty."

"Always had great respect for him, his family, his dad, I think he's going to do a great job in Dallas. I'm happy for him. Sometimes, coaches journeys, they're all a little bit different, right? He's got a great job there, head football coach of the 抖阴视频, and I think he'll do a great job. He's a very smart guy, great offensive mind, and I'm looking forward to watching Dallas play."

Not only will O'Brien be watching to see how Schottenheimer leads the Cowboys, but he'll also be watching his former team captain and All-American EDGE Donovan Ezeiruaku play for the Dallas after the Cowboys selected him with the 44th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

May 3

2:00 p.m. -- The cornerback group was one of, if not the most ravaged by injuries position group on the roster for the Cowboys in 2024. Trevon Diggs, Josh Butler, and new third-round pick Shavon Revel Jr. are all coming back from injury, and the rookie Revel appears to be closer than the latter.

"He's gonna be a guy that's going to be limited, you won't see him out there running around today," Schottenheimer said of Revel. "He'll be doing some stuff with the training staff, but he's progressing great. The cool thing about some of the walk throughs that we do is those guys can do that, we really don't have limitations on that."

Revel was on the field with the training staff during Saturday's media viewing of practice, and also spent time with CBs coach David Overstreet during walk throughs while observing his teammates.

There was no update on Diggs' rehab, but Butler has stood out to Schottenheimer for the way he's been attacking the process to get back onto the field.

"He could potentially be on PUP, it's really early still right now but he's doing great in his rehab," Schottenheimer said of Butler. "He's here every day, he was one of the first ones here, one of the last ones to leave."

May 1

11:00 a.m. -- As the Cowboys prepare to begin rookie minicamp today, seven of their nine rookies have put pen to paper on their first NFL contracts.

First-round pick Tyler Booker signed a four-year, $22.5 million deal, becoming the first first-round pick from last week's NFL Draft to sign his rookie deal.

The only two remaining draft picks that have not signed their deals to this point are second-round pick Donovan Ezeiruaku and fifth-round pick Jaydon Blue.
