Zero to 100: The numbers behind Cowboys' 24-21 win over Eagles

FRISCO, Texas – At one point on Sunday afternoon, it looked like the Cowboys had no chance against the reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles.

Then, the second half happened.

Dallas put up 24 unanswered point and the defense came up big with turnovers late, pushing the Cowboys to a 5-5-1 record on the season with plenty more still needing to happen if they want any chance to make the playoffs.

Let's dive into some more key numbers from the big win for Dallas:

With 146 yards on Sunday against the Eagles, Cowboys WR George Pickens becomes the second player in the NFL this season to reach 1,000 receiving yards (1,054 total) trailing only Seattle's Jaxon Smith-Njigba (1,313). It also is Pickens' second 1,000 yard season of his career, with the first coming in 2023.

When the Cowboys went down 21-0 to the Eagles with 5:07 left to go in the first half, Next Gen Stats' model gave Dallas just a 3.3% to come back and win the game. Then, they did.

The Eagles have only committed six turnovers this season in 11 games, with two of them occurring in the fourth quarter alone Sunday against the Cowboys. Sam Williams' forced fumble on Saquon Barkley and Alijah Clark's fumble in punt coverage were two game-changing plays. The Eagles had not committed multiple turnovers in a game this season.

The Cowboys held the Eagles without any points on their last eight possessions, which included five punts, two turnovers and a missed field goal.

In total, Dallas' offensive skill players forced 13 missed tackles against the Eagles defense. Running back Javonte Williams was responsible for forcing eight of those missed tackles and gained 34 yards off of them.

The 21-point deficit that the Cowboys overcame is tied for the largest in franchise history. The other occurrence came in September of 2014 against the St. Louis Rams, a game that the Cowboys 34-31.

Dallas' defense held All-Pro RB Saquon Barkley to just 22 yards rushing on 10 carries. Barkley's 22 yards on the ground is his lowest in a game since going for 14 on Dec. 17, 2023 in a loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Despite struggling to get home on Jalen Hurts for most of the game, the Cowboys defense still forced a 38.1% pressure rate on him, generating 16 total pressures. When facing pressure, Hurts completed 8 of his 14 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown.

Both teams had identical third-down conversion rates on Sunday, each converting 5-of-12 on third downs.

On play action, Cowboys QB Dak Prescott completed nine of his 11 passing attempts for 174 yards and a touchdown. His 174 passing yards off it is the second-most play action passing yards he's had in a game in his career.
